Objectives

Teaching Plan

Introduction to Integers (50 minutes)

The objective of the first lesson is to understand that an integer and its inverse are called opposites.

  1. Ask students what they know or remember about integers.
  2. Have students record their answers on the first page of Introduction to Integers.
  3. Read the introduction on the next page of Introduction to Integers as a class. Provide any necessary clarification.
  4. Have students complete the rest of the activities in Introduction to Integers.

Adding Integers (50 minutes)

The objective of the second lesson is to develop stategies for adding integers and for solving problems involving addition of integers.

  1. If needed, review the concept of opposites.
  2. Have students complete the activities provided with Adding Integers.

Subtracting Integers (30 minutes)

The objective of the third lesson is to develop stategies for subtracting integers and for solving problems involving subtraction of integers.

  1. Have students complete the activities provided with Subtracting Integers.

Multiplying Integers (35 minutes)

The objective of the fourth lesson is to develop stategies for multiplying integers and solve problems involving multiplication of integers.

  1. Have students complete the activities provided with Multiplying Integers.
