Objectives

• Given a core function and a description of its transformation, choose or write the transformed function.
  
• Given a core function, f(x), and an algebraic representation of its transformation, (i.e. g(x) = f(x) + 1), write g(x) in terms of x.
• Given the description of a transformation of a core function,
• Describe how the graph of the core function will change.
• Choose or write the transformed function
• Given the algebraic representation of a core function that has been transformed,
• Identify the parts of the function that result in a given transformation.
• Describe the difference between the graph of the core function and the graph of its transformation.
• Choose or write a description of the transformation.
• Choose or draw its graph.
  
• Given the graph of a core function that has been transformed:
• Choose or write the original core function.
  
• Choose or write a description of how the core function has been transformed.

Note: Depending on time constraints, this lesson may be presented in one day, with the option to discuss the quiz the day following.

Assessment

• Use class discussions to gauge the progress of the class and to identify common misconceptions.
• Walk around and observe individual students while they go through the lesson to identify individual progress and challenges.
• Use the quiz for the purpose of summative assessment and grading.
