Area of Parallelograms and Triangles (Math 5, Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I) (2 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses geoboards and pattern blocks to help students develop an understanding of the area formulas for parallelograms and triangles. Students are given the opportunity to develop skills by calculating the area of parallelograms , triangles, and irregular polygons.

[Lesson Plan]

Geometric Transformations (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry) (5 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses figures, interactive diagrams, pattern blocks, geoboards, graphs, programmable turtles, and coordinate systems to help students learn what it means to perform a geometric transformation. Covered transformations include reflections, translations, rotations, and dilations.

[Lesson Plan] | [Discuss]

Integer Arithmetic (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra) (3 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses number lines, color chips, and a variety of scenarios to help students understand what an integer is and how to do signed addition, subtraction and multiplication.

Math Insight - Choosing Chocolate (Math 5, Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I) (1 x 50 min.)

This eModule presents a scenario for students to interpret data and make predictions. To prevent the school cafeteria from getting rid of chocolate milk, J.R. and Elise gather data about chocolate milk sales for the last 12 weeks. Students help J.R. and Elise analyze the data, using the lines-of-best-fit to predict whether chocolate milk will soon be a best-seller. Choosing Chocolate is is based on materials created by SRI International for the Math Insight project.

Math Insight - Cool to Carpool (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I) (2 x 50 min.)

This eModule has students analyze three separate pollution reduction plans to see which will be most effective. Involves gathering and analyzing data from spreadsheets and scatterplots, then performing and comparing calculations. Cool to Carpool is based on materials created by SRI International for the Math Insight project.

Math Insight - Digging Dirt (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry) (2 x 50 min.)

This eModule asks students to calculate what an excavation company should charge for digging a hole. Students must find the volume of an irregular shaped prism, convert units, calculate the cost based on a linear formula, and write an explanation. Digging Dirt is based on materials created by SRI International for the Math Insight project.

Math Insight - Lessen the Loan (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I) (1 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses concepts of linear relationships to solve a problem. J.R. and Kristi each took out a loan for $400, but each is paying back the loan at a different rate. Students must find how soon each will pay off the loan using a linear equation or a scatterplot with a line of best fit. Lessen the Loan is based on materials created by SRI International for the Math Insight project.

[Lesson Plan]

Perimeter and Area (Math 2, Math 3, Math 4, Math 5, Math 6) (1 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses geoboards to help students develop understanding of the concepts perimeter and area. Students are given the opportunity to develop skill calculating the area of rectangles, triangles, and irregular polygons.

[Lesson Plan] | [Discuss]

Probability and Relative Frequency (Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra) (3 x 50 min.)

This eModule uses spinners, dice, box models, and scenarios to introduce and give students experience with probability. Covered concepts include outcome space, event, relative frequency, and the long run definition of probability.
